Port Clinton's Daily Bus From Waterworks Park Runs Once Each Way. Here's What That Timetable Is Good For

Since March 2, Port Clinton has had a daily intercity bus. GoBus picks up at Waterworks Park, 5 Jefferson St., near the waterfront bench. It runs every day of the year, and fares start at $5. The schedule matters more than the price, though. Each direction gets one bus a day. The eastbound bus leaves at 10:05 a.m., and the westbound bus comes through at 2:09 p.m.

That single pair of times decides what the bus is useful for. It works for a few hours in Sandusky, a one-way ride toward Cleveland Hopkins, and a day in Port Clinton for someone coming from Toledo or Fremont. It doesn't work for a Port Clinton resident who wants to spend a day in Toledo or Cleveland and sleep at home.

Two departures, four hours apart

GoBus calls this route the Gray Line, Toledo–Ashtabula. The current schedule was updated September 14, 2026. It lists trip 66 eastbound and trip 67 westbound, seven days a week. Here are the stops a Port Clinton rider is most likely to use:

Stop Eastbound, trip 66 Westbound, trip 67
Toledo, University of Toledo 8:35 a.m. 3:34 p.m.
Toledo, TARTA Transit Hub, 612 N Huron St 8:53 a.m. 3:21 p.m.
Fremont, YMCA 9:38 a.m. 2:36 p.m.
Port Clinton, Waterworks Park 10:05 a.m. 2:09 p.m.
Sandusky Amtrak Station, 1200 N Depot St 10:33 a.m. 1:41 p.m.
Cleveland, GCRTA Brook Park Station 12:46 p.m. 11:28 a.m.
Cleveland, Cedar-University Station 1:17 p.m. 10:57 a.m.

The full line keeps going east to Norwalk, Elyria, Painesville and Ashtabula, where it reaches Bridge St. Public Parking at 2:42 p.m. The Port Clinton times haven't changed since the route was announced. The Norwalk Reflector printed the same 10:05 a.m. and 2:09 p.m. departures in February.

Two things follow from this table. Every westbound stop comes before every eastbound stop at the Cleveland end. At the Toledo end, it's the reverse. So once you ride from Port Clinton to either city, the next bus home leaves the following day.

Three hours in Sandusky

Sandusky is the one trip that works as a same-day round trip. The eastbound bus reaches the Sandusky Amtrak Station at 10:33 a.m., and the westbound bus picks up there at 1:41 p.m. That leaves a little over three hours in Sandusky before you're back at Waterworks Park at 2:09.

The city's announcement lists Port Clinton to Sandusky at $5 one way, plus taxes and fees. That's the lowest fare GoBus charges. Two one-way tickets cost $10 before fees. For a short midday trip, that's a car-free option that didn't exist in Port Clinton until this spring.

This short hop is what local officials pointed to when the route was announced. In January, Sandusky's transit administrator, James Stacey, told the Sandusky Register the route would address a "transportation gap between Toledo and Cleveland." Port Clinton sits in that gap, and Sandusky is the only city on the line close enough to visit and still get the same day's bus back.

Hopkins works one way

The longer ride east has a different use. The eastbound bus reaches GCRTA's Brook Park Station at 12:46 p.m. RTA describes Brookpark as the last Red Line station before Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. On RTA's current schedule, the train ride from Brookpark to the airport takes three minutes, and weekday trains run about every 15 minutes. A one-trip fare costs $2.50. The city lists Port Clinton to Cleveland from $15, so a solo traveler can get from the waterfront to the airport for about $17.50 plus GoBus taxes and fees.

That works for an afternoon or evening flight. Coming home is harder. The westbound bus leaves Brook Park at 11:28 a.m. To ride GoBus home, you'd need to be off your plane and out at Brookpark by late morning. A flight that lands after that means a night in the Cleveland area or another way home.

Red Line work this month affects the airport end. GCRTA has scheduled single tracking between the Airport and Puritas stations on October 14–16, from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and warns that trains may be delayed. The 12:46 p.m. bus arrival falls inside that window. On the nights of October 20–21 and October 21–22, #66R buses replace Red Line trains between Brookpark and the Airport from 11:59 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. RTA details these changes on its alerts page. GCRTA says its first replacement railcar arrived in September 2026, but it doesn't expect new cars in Red Line passenger service until summer 2027.

Toledo works best for visitors

From Port Clinton, the westbound bus reaches the TARTA Transit Hub at 3:21 p.m. and the University of Toledo at 3:34 p.m. The next eastbound bus leaves Toledo at 8:35 the next morning. For a resident, a trip to Toledo means an overnight stay. That can work for a weekend with family or a student heading back to campus, but not for an afternoon appointment.

From the other direction, the times line up well. Someone boarding in Toledo at 8:53 a.m. gets to Waterworks Park at 10:05. They can catch the 2:09 p.m. bus back and be at the TARTA hub at 3:21. That gives them about four hours on the Port Clinton waterfront. Fremont works the same way. A guest leaving the Fremont YMCA at 9:38 a.m. arrives at 10:05 and is back in Fremont at 2:36 p.m.

A guest from Cleveland needs to stay over. They'd leave Cedar-University at 10:57 a.m., arrive in Port Clinton at 2:09 p.m., and catch the 10:05 a.m. eastbound the next morning. If you're planning a visit from friends or family, the schedule pretty much decides that a Toledo guest comes for the day and a Cleveland guest stays the night.

Amtrak doesn't line up

The eastbound bus stops at the Sandusky Amtrak Station, so it's natural to ask whether it connects to a train. It doesn't. Amtrak's timetables printed October 10, 2026, show every Sandusky stop in the middle of the night.

  • Lake Shore Limited: 4:23 a.m. on services 48 and 448, or 4:07 a.m. on service 1448, in one direction. In the other direction, 5:13 a.m. on services 49 and 449, or 4:55 a.m. on service 1449.
  • Floridian: 4:02 a.m. on service 40, 5:02 a.m. on service 1040, which runs Sunday through Friday, and 12:40 a.m. on services 41 and 1041.

The buses stop at the depot at 10:33 a.m. and 1:41 p.m., which leaves hours of waiting at either end. The city's notice says GoBus connects with other carriers and with the Columbus, Pittsburgh and Cincinnati-Kentucky airports. Those connections are on other GoBus routes, not the Gray Line. You'd need to ask GoBus how to plan one.

Before the 10:05 bus

The Waterworks Park stop has short-term parking only, and it doesn't sell tickets. Some details matter more for a stop like this one:

  • Phone hours are weekdays only. The bus runs 365 days a year, but the GoBus phone line at 888-954-6287 is staffed Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. For a weekend trip, you can buy online at booking.ridegobus.com up to 30 minutes before departure, use the RideGoBus app, or pay the driver in cash if seats are open.
  • Fares are starting prices. GoBus fares depend on distance. GoBus's own pages disagree on the top fare, so check the booking page for your trip's actual price.
  • Arrive by 9:50. GoBus asks riders to be at the stop at least 15 minutes before departure, and it notes that schedules can change.
  • Bags for an airport trip. Each rider can check two bags if there's space. Each bag's length, width and height can add up to no more than 62 inches. You can also bring one carry-on up to 25 pounds and 10 by 16 by 24 inches, plus a small personal item.
  • Getting to the park without a car. The Ottawa County Transportation Agency offers curb-to-curb rides within the county for $4 one way. Approved riders age 60 and older or with disabilities pay half fare. Reservations go through 419-898-7433, and OCTA recommends booking at least 24 hours ahead. Weekday service starts at 5 a.m., so a 10:05 departure is easy to reach. Sunday service ends at 5 p.m. When you book, confirm the exact pickup or drop-off spot at the park.

The Port Clinton stop came out of a city ordinance approving an agreement with HAPCAP, the agency that runs GoBus, and Barons Bus. The Toledo Blade reported that a federal intercity bus grant administered by ODOT pays for the expansion, which added 26 stops. The city's GoBus notice and the current Gray Line schedule are the two pages to check before you plan a trip around the 10:05 or the 2:09.
